Volunteer with The Orangutan Project
Are you interested in joining a community of like-minded people to help save orangutans? It is easy to join one of The Orangutan Project’s volunteer fundraising teams in your region! You will meet lots of great people and make a real difference to help orangutans and to save their forest home. Best of all, 100 per cent of the donations you collect will go directly to supporting orangutan conservation projects!
We love our volunteers!
The Orangutan Project highly values our wonderful volunteers and the enormous contribution they make. Our volunteers help to raise much-needed funds and awareness about the urgency for the conservation of critically-endangered orangutans and their forest homes.
“I've been volunteering for five years now and in that time I have met hundreds of people who otherwise may not have been exposed to the plight of the orangutans. To help educate the community to understand that these animals are on the brink of extinction and that every one of us can do something to help, brings a lot of fulfilment in my life. It doesn't take much time or effort to help.”
Courtney, Volunteer, Brisbane Team.
What can I do as a volunteer?
Our volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds and bring diverse experience and skills to the cause. As a volunteer, there are lots of things that you can do to make a difference. You can choose what you do and how much time you contribute. A few options include:
Your local Regional Representative will help you find an activity that suits you.
“TOP’s volunteers are a crucial part of our organisation. Their valuable contribution makes a huge difference to orangutan conservation.”
Leif Cocks, President of TOP.
Why volunteer with The Orangutan Project?
You'll benefit too:
“I've always believed that it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness. What's more, giving your precious time and energy to something you care deeply about brings its own rewards. I've enjoyed being part of a team, and I'm proud of what we've achieved. We've had plenty of laughs along the way! Camaraderie, humour and our shared sense of purpose keep us going.”
Diana, volunteer, Canberra Team.
Where can I volunteer with The Orangutan Project?
There are many teams around Australia that you can join. You can also start-up your own team if you're outside these regions or not in Australia, email apply@orangutan.org.au to find out how.
If there is not a team already in your region, why not become a Regional Representative? As a Regional Representative, you will build and manage a team of volunteers to undertake fundraising activities in your town/city/district. Your main activity will be to organise stalls at markets, shopping centres or festivals to collect donations and to sell orangutan adoptions and merchandise. You and your team might also arrange events such as trivia nights, movie nights or other fundraising activities.
“I have always wanted to help out, so I decided to become a volunteer and it was super easy to sign up! There wasn’t a team in my area, so I started one. It’s rewarding to know that every time you sell something or collect donations, it goes to helping our orange friends!”
Jessee, Charters Towers Regional Representative.
Now is the time to get involved!
We are looking for new Regional Reps across Australia, especially in other parts of Sydney.
