How did you get into the work you do presently?
Growing up, I was always fascinated by the environment. Living in Tamiang, a part of Aceh where floods almost always occur during the rainy season as a result of environmental mismanagement and weak policies. Since graduating, I have worked in organisations that focus on protecting the Leuser Ecosystem, an enchanted ecosystem in Aceh that plays a major role for more than 4 million people in Aceh.
Forum Konservasi Leuser began immediately after the previous organization I worked for, Leuser Conservation Management Body (BPKEL) was disbanded. Alongside other staff from BPKEL, I formed FKL to serve as the organization that aims to protect the Leuser Ecosystem on the ground. Previously, I served as the Conservation Manager of the organization. As of 2018, I serve as the Director of FKL.
Describe the main aspects of your work:
The main aspect of my work is overseeing project management and budget management of the organization. In addition, I also maintain and make new connections with key government and NGO stakeholders as well as donors relating to forest conservation.
What do you like best about your job?
I love being able to show people around the world the beauty of the Leuser Ecosystem- the forest, the wildlife and everything inside of it. Protection of the Leuser Ecosystem also benefits the people of Aceh through the ecosystem services it provides.
