Ginting is still very dependent on her mother Gober. She is very shy and likes to watch her twin brother Ganteng and learn what she needs to do when he takes the lead. Ginting is now being offered fruit to eat, and is eating watermelon, banana and all seasonal fruit like rambutans and durians.
Ginting will often follow her brother's lead and will only eat if her brother eats before her! When the technicians are not around, they often observe her from a distance beginning to climb and move freely around the cage on all the small hanging devices that are new to her home. This mobile activity is helping her develop the skills needed to be an orangutan. When people approach the cage, Ginting will hide next to her mother showing no signs of wanting to interact with people. This is excellent development, as they are the wild behaviours required for her to become a confident and independent orangutan that will be ready for the wild in the future. Gober is not as protective of Ginting and Ganteng now, and will often be more relaxed when they are climbing and moving around the lower levels of the cage.
Ganteng is still very dependent on his mother Gober, but is much more confident than his twin sister Ginting. He is learning to climb around the cage freely and will often be the first to be interested in the new climbing devices that the technicians put up in the cage. Ganteng is also eating many of the fruits that are in season. He has learnt from his mother Gober to take food from her mouth, and then will eat next to her once he finds a fruit he likes. His sister Ginting will now follow his lead and eat only once he has taken his fruit first. When the technicians are not around, they often observe him from a distance being the first to climb and play with Ginting away from Gober. This mobile activity is helping him develop the skills needed to be an orangutan. When people approach the cage, Ganteng will run back to his mother, but will be a little interested and watch intently on what the technicians are about to offer in the cage, like food! He will put his hand out if he wants a particular fruit like a rambutan. Ganteng is the confident orangutan twin and continues to grow every day into a handsome male. Gober is not too stressed when the twins now play separately from her, giving her a well deserved break!
