Meki continues to do well on a forested pre-release island called Kaja Island in the Rungan River, run by the BOS Foundation.
She is 15 years of age and is in excellent health. Meki is an active orangutan and is known for her ability to craft sturdy nests for herself. The keepers think she is a very elegant orangutan.
Meki was frequently spotted on the Kalawau feeding platform and feeding platform one, along with Sido, Lory, and Pirang over the past few months. In February, the orangutan keepers did not see Meki in the vicinity of the feeding platforms on Kaja Island for several days. It seemed she had ventured deep into the island’s interior.
On the fifth day, the orangutan keepers initiated a search that extended into the inner areas of the island. After an extensive search, she was finally found and was doing fine! Meki's active nature and her ability to thrive on the island indicate a high likelihood of her being considered a candidate for release, based on monitoring results.
