In July 2024, thanks to the kindness of people just like you, Paluy was rescued from a life-threatening situation. And today, we have a fantastic update to share about Paluy!
A victim of human-orangutan conflict, Paluy was found in a palm oil plantation, fighting for his life. He was starving, terrified, and suffering from injuries to his eyes and ears. At around 18 years old, Paluy weighed just 40kg, far below the healthy weight for a male his age.
Our team rushed him to our BORA rescue centre in East Borneo, where he began the long road to recovery. And thanks to your amazing support, Paluy did just that: he recovered!
In January 2025, Paluy was released back into the wild. Free to live in a protected rainforest, exactly as he should.
And now, two years after his rescue, Paluy has been spotted thriving in the wild!
While our team in Borneo were sorting through trail camera videos, they were gifted with the most amazing surprise…
Videos of Paluy confidently walking across the forest floor! They were so excited to see him in the wild, as he came down from the canopy to explore the area right in front of the hidden camera.

The most incredible part? Paluy looks healthy. His body condition has improved dramatically, and his hair has grown thick and full.
This tells us something else important too: that his forest home is well-preserved, and has everything orangutans and other wildlife need to survive.
We are beyond thrilled to see Paluy thriving. It’s proof that every rescue, every life saved, and every patch of rainforest protected is absolutely worth it.
Your kindness helped rescue Paluy. It gave him the urgent medical care he needed to survive, and a second chance at life in the wild.
Your kindness also helps protect his forest home. So Paluy, and other orangutans just like him, can keep living freely in the wild. Just as they were born to do!
